Booking Through Thursday

Todday's BTT is an open meme, and requests that participants ask their own reading related questions.

My question to all readers is -

If you are a book reviewer (or even those who are "book addicts"), what do you do with all of your books you accumulate once you've read them? As reviewers we're asked nicely not to resell them, and instead we're told to donate them or give them away, but do you have a hard time letting go of the books, but are having an even harder time trying to figure out where to keep them? What if they're signed, does this make a difference?

My answer

Since I officially began reviewing back in the early part of this year, I have accumulated quite a bit of books, and do have a hard time figuring out where to fit them amongst the pile of books I already own. I've had to stop myself completely (which is a hard thing to do) from purchasing any books on my own since I'm running out of room. I don't want to get rid of them just yet, especially the signed copies. I was thinking about doing giveaways, but it could get quite expensive with shipping them everywhere. And just tossing them to a donation place seems to me as a sad end to that person's book I feel attached to since I reviewed it, when it's lumped in a pile of thousands of other donations. Maybe as the years go by and the books continue to pile up I'll be thinking differently, but as for now I may end up needing an entire home just to store my books, since I can't part with them.

I borrow most of the books I read from the library. If I really love, love a book I will purchase it for my home library. The books that are sent to me for review I give each and every one of them away either to Friends of the Library, the local women's shelter or to a friend and ask them to pay it forward. If I know of an opportunity to give away a book or two on my blog, I will hold back some and do that.

I resent reselling the books that I like...but I will gladly resell books that I find dissapointed.

My dream is to have my own little library...so how can I resell the books I have already bought :)

Thx for sharing your Stephen King's book in my blog :) I will email you soon :)

Does it help to know you're not alone? :-) I have trouble parting with books too but the bookshelves are starting to look dangerous so I pulled several off the shelf that are going to be donated. At the moment they are sitting in a bag by the door and each day I leave without taking them with me as if I need just a few more days with them...

I never sell anything I read. I simply give those books I never mean to re-read to Old Age Homes or Orphanages.
